Kern County Democratic Party Chair, Christian Romo
Christian Romo Biography
Born and raised in East Bakersfield, Christian Romo is a proud son of the Central Valley. Christian attended local public schools and graduated from Golden Valley High School before going on to attend Taft College and California State University, Bakersfield.
Christian is a true organizer at heart. He began his career at the young age of 15 as a youth organizer with the Building Healthy Communities organization in South Kern. After leading a successful campaign in revitalizing communities in South Kern, he then caught the “political bug” and became involved in various local political campaigns, helping to elect individuals such as Assemblymember Rudy Salas, Supervisor Leticia Perez, Bakersfield Councilmembers Willie Rivera, Eric Arias, Manpreet Kaur, Andrae Gonzalez as well as many school board members throughout Kern County.
Christian has been a long-time political staffer, starting first as an intern for former Assemblymember Rudy Salas and has since climbed up the ranks to now serve as the Chief of Staff for Kern County Board of Supervisors Chair, Leticia Perez.
Christian has been elected to serve as a delegate to the California Democratic Party Convention multiple since 2014 and has been a member of the Kern County Democratic Central Committee since he was 18. He has served as political director for the Bakersfield Young Democrats and received the George and Millie Albin
Award from the Kern County Democratic Party in 2015.
In March 2020, Christian made history by being elected as the youngest Chair of any County Democratic Party in California. He was re-elected in 2024 and once again is the youngest elected chair in the state.
More recently, Christian’s high profile political accomplishments and civic engagement efforts have been featured in an exhibit alongside civil rights leader Dolores Huerta at the California State Museum.
Christian attributes his success to his family: His father, an immigrant from Zacatecas, Mexico who currently works as a welder in the oil fields of Kern; his mother, a retired CA State employee; his brother, a United States Navy sailor; and most of all Christian credits his accomplishments to his late grandmother, who
raised him to always fight for the underdog.
