LGBTQIA+ Important Dates

Our talented and dedicated LGBTQIA+ Community Coordinator Susan Stuart has provided us with a list of important dates within the community. We wanted to take this opportunity to share them with you in hopes of shining a brighter light on these often overlooked events. If you have any ideas for how the TMDC can help celebrate any of these dates, please feel free to comment below or contact us here!

  • March 31 - Transgender Day of Visibility

  • April 23 - Day of Silence (Participants refuse to speak for the entire day to symbolize how LGBTQIA+ voices have often been silenced.)

  • June - LGBTQIA+ Pride Month

  • June 28 - Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots (Often credited as the beginning of the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement as we know it today.)

  • July 16 - International “Drag” Day

  • October - LGBTQIA+ History Month

  • October 26 - Intersex Awareness Day (“Intersex” is the modern and accepted term for what used to be known as “hermaphrodite.” Children born this way have often been subjected to involuntary surgeries with dire consequences.)

  • November 20 - Transgender Day of Remembrance (Memorializes those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia and transphobic hate crimes.)

  • November - Transgender Awareness Month

  • December 1 - World AIDS Day

We cannot thank Susan enough for helping us to better serve our friends and family members within the LGBTQIA+ community. If we have missed any other important holidays or dates of remembrance, please let us know!
